In an aggressive escalation, Russia executed an extensive missile and drone offensive on Kyiv early Monday, leaving at least nine individuals dead and wounding 46 others, including five children, as confirmed by Ukrainian authorities. Rescue operations are ongoing, and officials have cautioned that the number of casualties may increase.
The nighttime barrage caused significant destruction to residential structures throughout the Ukrainian capital. Emergency responders reported that at least 15 apartment buildings were either damaged or obliterated, notably a nine-story residential tower in Kyiv’s Podilskyi district. Here, rescue efforts were concentrated on extricating people trapped beneath the debris.
The assault also claimed a life in the Bucha district, situated northwest of Kyiv. This event follows closely on the heels of a previous Russian strike that resulted in the deaths of at least 27 individuals in Kyiv, making it one of the most lethal attacks on the city this year.
The Russian Defense Ministry acknowledged executing what it termed a “massive” onslaught utilizing long-range missiles and drones. According to their statement, the targets included military, energy, and airfield infrastructure within Kyiv and various other Ukrainian regions.
Amidst this backdrop of escalating violence, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported ongoing combat around the strategically pivotal town of Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region. He refuted Russian assertions that the town has been seized, indicating that the battle for control continues.
